Art

I am very excited to teach Visual Arts this year after spending a year on leave studying Visual Arts at RMIT.

This term students have enthusiastically approached each activity with one’s own creative flair and self-expression. Students are encouraged to challenge their understandings of

the world around them and express one’s own creative thought and ideas through a variety of media.

In the early years students freely explore and experiment with a number of materials and media. As they gradually build their knowledge and skill sets, students begin to understand how they can manipulate these materials and media to express what they see and observe.

In the upper years students investigate both past and present art work to inspire deeper understandings of creative expression and to be aware of new perspectives that challenge current knowledge and skill sets. Students are guided by the teacher to freely explore ways of visual expression that extend beyond work that is seen in galleries.

Overall students are taught both the elements and principles of art and how to best use these concepts to achieve a certain outcome. From Foundation to Grade Six, students continually build a vocabulary bank of artistic words to apply upon reflection and/or to discuss one’s own or others work.
